Teachers at CIS Shenyang Plan for the Future

release time:2020-07-06 11:03:11 Hits:

Here at CIS Shenyang, we strive to give the best education to our students and leave nothing to chance. With this spirit and using our experiences from the last 2 years, feedback from parents/students, and our own observations we are meticulously planning not only for the last two weeks of classes that we have left but also for our next academic year and the fast-approaching summer camp.

During our meetings, we discuss how our students are doing, how to best approach them, how to work together as a team to achieve the best academic results for our students and how to help them reach their potential. As coordinators, we also need to make sure that the teaching standards stay as high as ever and well over the IB standards that we proud ourselves with carrying, now officially since we were authorized last February to be an IB world-class international school.

But not all school life is about studying, we also plan on activities and how to make our students feel welcome. We have daily activities in which, under the supervision of our PE teacher Mr. Seabra, MYP art teacher Ms. Dugdale, MYP math teacher Mr. Hobson and myself (Dr. Sabate, MYP Science teacher and MYP coordinator) gather the students outside and promote healthy life by doing safely sports like tennis and badminton following the social distancing rules mandated by the government.

We also go over all the protocols in place to prevent the contamination of COVID 19. In this way, we make sure that everyone knows them by heart and knows how to keep students safe at all times and situations. We feel very proud that because of our efforts to elaborate these protocols and the way we implement them, CIS Shenyang is one of the only two international schools in Shenyang that was allowed to open its doors.

We are keeping an eye ahead planning for next year, be it a standard on-site academic year, or an initially online one. Learning from our experiences of the past few months and the feedback received from parents and students we are modifying, even now, the way we approach online learning to ensure effective learning for the students and an acceptable work method for the parents. These changes include daily teacher videos according to the students' schedule with explanations of the lessons (that will become an online audio-visual library of classes accessible to all our students and parents through Managebac), face-to-face Zoom classes and personalized feedback to be sent to the students with suggestions and guidance on how to improve. Moreover, many options are being considered to do online assessments to follow up on students’ development during the year.

Great things are going to happen soon that will surely make our school if not the top, one of the top international school in Northern China!
