Visit of US Office of Overseas Schools Regional Education Officer to CISS

On March 17, CISS was honored to receive two distinguished guests -- Mr. Andrew Hoover, Regional Education Officer, Office of Overseas Schools from US and Ms. Yvette Wang, Community Liaison Office, US Consulate Shenyang.

As the only IB Continuum World School in Liaoning, we were proud to show Mr. Andrew Hoover around the beautiful campus environment and the hardware and software conditions of CISS. We also introduced the educational philosophy and achievements of CISS in recent years.

Mr. Andrew Hoover was concerned about the impact of the pandemic on school enrollment and academic quality over the past year. We told him that during the past two years of the pandemic, foreign teachers have been living on campus, the school has set up an anti-epidemic team, and also provided free six-week summer camp for our students. Therefore, the number of students in 2020 increased by 1.5-fold instead of decreasing. Mr. Andrew Hoover admired the school's arrangement and the hard work of the teachers.

At the same time, we also introduced to Mr. Andrew Hoover the current focus of the school, which is to make the school grow continuously. The philosophy of the school is to cultivate the sound personality of the students through social emotional learning (SEL), ensure the happiness, health and safety of the students, and cultivate their respect for diversity equity, inclusiveness and justice. CISS warmly welcomes students of all nationalities, languages and backgrounds, and we ensure that all students are treated fairly. We also highlighted the middle and high school curriculum to Mr. Andrew Hoover.

Mr. Andrew Hoover also learned about our specific measures in child protection in detail. The school has two sections of gate security guards and a one-button alarm system. The school's driver team is also member of lockdown team. We also carry out regular lockdown drills and fire drills among the staff. Food safety is also fully guaranteed, our cafeteria is not outsourced, taken care of by our own staff!
