At lunchtime on March 31, in the Grade 4 classroom, a lively and interesting ambush origami market opened! The students were looking with curiosity around the market, holding their play money and selecting their favorite origami. Everyone had a great time.
The story started from several days ago. The Grade 4 students had been busy preparing and they were very excited about their project. They had come up with some different traditional marketing strategies to raise awareness and created some excitement for the market to attract customers.
From Monday 27th, you could see A4 posters made by Grade 4 students in various locations around campus. With the teacher’s permission, these posters were posted in each classroom. Just after the 8:20 bell of each morning, the Grade 4 students visited each classroom and shouted out the daily message about the market. Even some shy kids pushed themselves and they were all capable of a good shout of the message!
There were 2 promotional activities attached to the market.
First one is Guess the Balls. From Monday to Thursday there was a box on a table inside the front door with a number of paper balls in it. The students needed to guess how many paper balls were in the box. On the table there was a list of every student. The students could write their guess next to their names. The closest one to the correct number got $50 to spend at the market.
Second one is Treasure Hunt. On Friday morning, market money was hidden around the campus. Including blutacked to walls, hidden behind posters, on doors etc…. At morning snack time, the students went on a treasure hunt, collected ‘money’ that they could then spend at the market.
After these activities, the market started. Students from different grades came to the door of Grade 4 classroom at different times. Each student was given “$20” play money to spend at the market. They could also play “rock, paper, scissors” at the door. The winner got an extra $2 to spend at the market. With the play money they earned from previous promotional activities, they could then purchase really cool handmade origami products at the market.
Many students and teachers also joined in the activity with full enthusiasm.
