The IB website, states “All IB programmes aim to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.” The IB learner profile represents 10 attributes values by IB World Schools. The learner profiles are:
• Inquirers
• Knowledgeable
• Thinkers
• Communicators
• Principled
• Open-minded
• Caring
• Risk-Takers
• Balanced
• Reflective
In the PYP at CISS, we strive to develop within students the IB Learner Profile Attributes. Each week we are focusing on one Learner Profile Attribute across the curriculum and throughout each school day.
The last two weeks we have focused on being Communicators and Thinkers. As communicators, the students are encouraged to express themselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and many different ways. They collaborate effectively and listen carefully to the perspectives of others. As thinkers, they were encouraged to use critical and creative thinking skills to analyze and take responsible action on complex problems. They exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.
The PYP held a certificate ceremony last Friday to celebrate those students who showed strong tendencies in these two learner profile attributes. We congratulate them on being great IB students!
