Painting is defined as a formative art that draws shapes on a flat surface with various lines or colors. Music is an art that expresses emotions by beats, rhythm, melodies, harmony, tones, dynamics, etc. in a certain rule and form, using sounds and noises in the range of human hearing. Accordingly, while painting aims to create a spatial object in a permanent form based on concrete material that exists in the three-dimensional world, music is created and developed along with the passage of time along with literature and dance. Therefore, plastic art is called static and spatial art, and music is called dynamic and temporal art.
Kandinsky, who expressed his art world by focusing on the musicality of painting, understands that musical experience is not aural, but purely in the soul, that is, in the inner world. Kandinsky viewed the two major elements of art as “color” and “painting” and asserts that each has a function as “language”. In other words, colors and forms do not simply reveal visual effects, but contain the “resonance” that exists within, becoming a kind of language that appeals to our souls. Therefore, he pursued musical painting because he thought that the desires and impulses of the inner mental world were not in intellectual stillness but in the relationship of dynamic forces and tensions, and expressed them abstractly.
